Giles relaxed back into his sofa and sipped on the new blend of tea that had finally been delivered after three months of waiting. He had heard of this new tea merchant and needing a change of pace associated from everything in Sunnydale he picked this selection, which in turn seemed to have been quite popular. Its soothing affects lulled him into drifting off for just a tad bit.

“Rupert.” The figure stared at his still not waking form. “RUPERT!”

He sat up with a start, attempting to see who it is, through askewed glasses. “Jenny?” The last time he saw her face was when he was being tortured by Angelus and even then it was truly just Dru.

She smiled. She saw the disbelief in his eyes. “How's my sexy fuddy duddy?”

Familiarity shot through him and he was up on his feet to gather her in his arms, only that he gathered nothing.

“I'm a ghost, remember?”

His hand went into his hair as though he could just pull the right words thorough his skull instead of stuttering through untold number of words.

She held up her finger to his lips, “Shuuussshhhhhh. I don't have much time.”

“But… but … how?”

“How doesn't matter right now. The thing that does, is you going back to Buffy.”

“I can't. I won't.”

“Then you'll lose her. Forever and I'm not just talking relationship.”

“You don't understand. She has been so, self involved, so unaware of everyone else…”

“So, another words, normal self.”

“Yes, NO! I mean…. It… it's just that, before she died this last time, she was starting to come around….”

“Look lets make this short, I know what's been happening down here among you guys. I still watch over you.” A smile crept on both of their faces. “Joyce and I have had a lot of talk about this.”

“J… Joyce you say?”

She nodded, “Anyway, Look at it from her perspective, she's got this job that for one doesn't pay you a dime, it plays hell on your social calendar and also endangers everyone she knows. Just as she starts coping with that, her first boyfriend turns out to be a vampire, who is the great tortuous vamp of all, Angelus. After sending him to hell, she took a little regroup time. She was alone, frightened, she couldn't contact her friends and family after putting them through the hell that was her love life, allowing him to live, letting me die, sending willow to the hospital and getting you tortured by him. She was afraid of not only being arrested, but also cast away, shunned. You following so far?”

He nodded his head and slowly sunk back into the sofa, letting the revelation sink in. It hit him hard. He wanted to weep for her.

“Ok she comes back and though everyone says they were good with her, they distanced themselves from her, but you remained her constant. She was really afraid of what you would say to her, but you didn't scare her away and she tried to earn your trust again. Ok jumping ahead past a few more mistakes, She was thrust upon her, a sister, which she eventually grew to love. Her mother dies, leaving her with the grief and having to fill the parental void. Deep down inside she knew she could do this, but here is also this psycho woman who wants her sister, the fact that eventually long term she will need a source of income to support them. That means dropping out of school and finding a job that will pay enough and allow for the slaying. At the battle against Glory, she couldn't see someone else she cared about die on her as well, all because of what she did, of who she is. With love and regrets, she leapt at the portal to save the world one last time. We all chitchat for a long while and she was torn away from there. Thrown back, into the hell she once knew to fend for herself again. Alone. Because its what you believe is right for her. You shrug her away, instead of guiding her.”

“Now see here, she was using me as a crutch.”

“And what is a crutch anyway? An instrument on the road to recovery, you were to aid her, not hamper her, she may never recover now till it's too late.” She noticed that her form was starting to dissipate, “I have to go, but bear in mind what I said as three vampires come too, don't worry they can't harm you. Both Buffy's future and your own is at stake if you choose incorrectly, the consequences will be dire.”

“Jenny?” He looked at the spot where she once stood, regretting that even during the brief time she was with him that he never told her….. in a whisper he let it out. “I love you.”

He sobbed, He thought he had finished grieving, but now it all comes up, Jenny's death, Buffy's death and her being alive again, the pain of tearing himself away from her, he hadn't even noticed that the first vampire was there. When he looked up, fear filled him and he dove away from the creature behind the couch trying to gain distance. “How? You weren't invited?”

“The king of his queen is jumping around like the rabbit that Alice met and ate her all up. All those words all locked up, like a beautiful trainwreck and the baby kitten that licks at the marble. This is a dream silly, I'm your dream.”

Always being cooped up in a room with her has been taxing times. “What is it you want?” He finally was close enough to grab for a cross if she got too close.

“I come here for your party! Naughty boy. Running away from your slayer. You two belong you know, more then my Spike. If you go back and tell her he'll come back to me.”

“Tell her? Tell her what? There's nothing to tell.”

“We could really have some fun if you were turned.” She vamped out.

He brandished the cross at her.

She relaxed back to her true form. “Don't you want to play?” He stood his ground, but looked slightly off to the side for some sort of weapon. It was the second in which it was all she needed to knock the menacing object away and take strong hold of him. She laughed. “Pity. If I don't do this one favor for the PTB, I'll be dusted the instant I was taken away. But you have to play, I'll make you.” She reached into his memories till she found the one she liked.

“Oh isn't she a pretty ball of fury.”

Giles was there now, looking on in a third person aspect as Buffy, Olivia and himself stood there. The day he callously told her to go away. He wanted her to hurt just as much as he was. He succeeded just in that too. He stared at himself; he looked so cold at that moment. Dru dragged him out side. His slayer was in tears. Dear God, Buffy. I'm so sorry. That's when he heard it.

“I'm sorry I screwed up your life, I promise I'll stay away. Goodbye I love you.”

What? She couldn't mean….? Could she? No, of course not old man, she'd never look at you that way. Still that explains why she distanced herself even though I came to apologize later on. He turned back to cold-blooded woman and took in a face full of dust rendering him quickly unconscious.

“Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust if it wasn't for women your thing would….” She laughed out the next word making it incomprehensible. “Night. Night.”

“Wake up Watcher, The other half of Passions is almost on and I had dibs on that seat ‘fore you materialized here.” He popped a smoke ‘tween his lips and drew in a drag.

“What are you supposed to show me?”

“Oh now. Whatever happened to plain old small talk?” His answer was a glare from Giles that told him well enough to behave. “Well, you see now, I was told that I had to play the vampire of Christmas present. Show ya how your bleedin' Slayer is all boo who since ya left. Can you just take my word and let's watch the rest of the tely.

“Take me to her.”

He took another puff from his cigarette. “Right.” He threw it to the ground. “Down to business then.” They walked a little through the graveyard, “You know I think I can see what you do see in her, she's a good shag.” He found himself suddenly thrust upon the wall of a crypt and held there. He smiled, he still had the edge even with the chip, he could still successfully agitate.

“If you ever go near her again, I'll personally see to it that you never feed again. You'll simply turn into dust after the agony you will be in.”

Spike's smile faltered, he remembered what it was like to be hungry, just after the chip was put in, he had no where's to go. He counted on the do-gooders generosity to see him through.

They arrived at the Magic shop where they had come into the middle of an argument between Buffy and Anya, with Xander playing referee.

“I could use the room in the shop, if she wants to keep using it she should pay for it.”

“Honey, Giles would never agree with that.”

“It's ok Xander, really. Anyway, I don't think, she'll have to wait to much longer before she can have it.”

“Don't talk like that. So you've had a few close calls…”

“A few!?? After Giles left, I can't seem to keep it together out there. He kept me alive. He made me feel alive. I can't even properly take care of Dawn. She'll be much better off with Dad. The resources are dwindling, my life is emotional wreck, I can't seem to hold a job, cause hey, and the things that usually go bump in the night want to mess with me during the day as well. I miss him.” She slid into a slump against the wall.

“Maybe I can call him and…”

“NO!” Her friend looked at her. “You can't. He's got a life now. Had one before he came back over here. Besides what could I ever possibly hope to offer him? It's probably best this way. That he doesn't know.”

“Buffy, I think Giles would come back if you'd just tell him, He loves you, you love him, what's the big?”

“The big is, he has someone else in his life. I can't deny him that. Besides all I've ever done to him is hurt him. He deserves better.” They were silent for a bit, “Can you take Dawn for Christmas. The uglies are supposed to be real bad that day, you know anything to spoil someone's fun.”

“Um yeah sure.”

She got up to leave, “Thanks.”

She does love me. Damn it anyhow. How could she let her self esteem get so low?

“Seen enough?” Giles just nodded and when the surroundings transitioned into place he was back at his flat in Bath. “Look, truth be told. She loves you, I've never had a chance at it. Oh I don't know who number 3 is by the way, but, we can be staked here just as same as we would be if we were really here.

The room swirled again it got quite dark and when he regained consciousness he found that he was tied to a chair, and in a room similar to the one he was tortured in.

A dark hooded figure stood before him.

“Let's cut to the chase Angelus.”

He took down the hood. “You know you take away all the fun of being the ‘Vampire of the future'. You know it does have a certain ring to it. It really is funny too. Here I was beating myself down and here I am ‘THE FUTURE'. Well boyo, I was supposed to show your future I guess, I'm only playing along with the PTB cause it fits so nicely. And well, I'll show you the future. A new glorious future with me at the wheel.”

“Buffy will stop you.”

“Oh that's the beauty of it. See I learned since the last time we tangled. I'm going to play the represses boyfriend right up to the point where I make her my snack. Of course that's after I snap her neck.” He looked up as though he can see the scene play out in front of him. “I'll bask in the slayer's blood. You know I hear drinking the blood of the stalker of all my kind, gives you an incredible high.”

Giles twisted at his bonds. This gave amusement to his tormentor.

“Go ahead. Try and break free. Show me that fire. Hell if I can't break you, but hurting you phsically, then I'll go after the one thing that will get at you.”

Giles felt the frame crack, but fortunately it didn't make a noise. He worked the rope so that now it was loose. He had freedom and a piece of sharp wood all he needed now was a chance.

“You see at 8pm, my sweet little girl is going to meet me at the cemetery on the west end of town and I'll greet her. When she slips into my arms, this is the beauty of it, it will be my embrace that she feels just before I kill her.” He laughed and turned around.

Giles saw this as his one opportunity, remembering Spike's words, “Angelus.” The vampire turned around and received the wood in his heart. “Go to hell and don't come back.” With a mighty poof, the mighty Angelus was no more. Dust in the wind and so forth.

He opened his eyes slowly and was relieved to find he was in his flat. He started to rub his eyes when he felt something around his wrist…. Rope. Just like the one Angelus used in his dream. He picked himself up and ran to the bedroom to pack a bag.

At the airport he tried valiantly to get a Concorde flight back to the states. He needed to get there as fast as possible, but sadly no flights were leaving at this time due to a heavy blizzard. An old bearded man was watching him, when it looked like he had given up hope, that's when he approached the watcher.

“Excuse me, I couldn't help but to overhear that you need to get back to the states.”

“Well yes, but they aren't allowing anymore flights tonight and even still I can even book passage.”

“I have a way there, if you would like to come.”

His eyes lit up. “You have a plane? Then by all means man, lets go.”

They walked toward a hanger and inside there was a sleigh and what could pass for reindeer. If it weren't for the fact that he was in a hurry he would have found this amusing. The crazy old loon thinks he's Santa Claus.

The Old guy climbed into the sleigh and looked at him expectantly, “Well are you coming Rupert?”

“How did you know my name?”

“I'm Santa Claus.”

“Riigghhtt. Who are you really? Part of the Council?”

“Oh yes, the council of watchers. You had wanted a fighter plane for Christmas that year until you were told that you couldn't indulge in your imagination. I dropped it off anyway.”

“Dad was very upset over that being in the house.” He stopped for a second. “Are you really him?”

“Do you think that the only thing is real is vampires and demons? I'm quite real. So Rupert care to get back to your Slayer.”

“H…How?

“I'm Santa remember. I know everything.” He patted the seat by him and Giles climbed in.

“How will we take off?”

“Rudolph knows how.” His nose did indeed glow red. On the way they chatted about all things, including about his love for Buffy. He dropped him off at the Summer's residence and wished him well.

Rupert tried the door and it wouldn't budge, he knocked still yet nothing. He looked at his watch and realized that it was time for her to meet Angel/Angelus. He ran all the way there. Even though the vampire had been dealt with, Buffy had gotten weak and damn near suicidal. He didn't come all this way just to lose her again.

He got there to find her wrapped up in a battle, he closed the distance and found her stake on the ground, he picked it up and plunged it into the blood suckers heart. He watched the dust rain down on her sweet face. “Buffy??!!”

Her eyes quickly opened, “Giles?” She smiled and wrapped her arms around him. “It is you.”

He held her tight in his arms. He also felt her sobs rack through her body. “Now Luv, its alright. I'm here, You're here. We're both here, together. Forever.”

“Forever? You won't leave again?”

She raised her head to see his eyes, “Well I have to leave again.” Her head dropped again, but he lifted it up. “But only for a few weeks till I can take care of my flat and my personals. I promise you after that I will always be by your side.” He moved his lips to hers. The moments unsure of how one another will respond, but doubt soon disappeared and the once gentle kiss turned more sure and fevered. He broke the kiss first, “I'm not quite sure hear and um, now would be a very good place….” She pulled him to his feet and the walked home in the crisp air, snow started to fall like it did once before along time ago.

Two Miracles happened today, not only the snow, but also two people had found their soulmates today. We peek into the bedroom and find the two lovers entwined as one as the cry out for one another. Together they had found completion.
